YOUTH FITNESS AT RISK.
ONLY 30-40% OF CHILDREN IN THE U.S. MEET DAILY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY RECOMMENDATIONS. AT PRESENT, THERE IS A GROWING NEED TO PROVIDE FITNESS PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS WHO NEED TO ENHANCE MUSCULAR STRENGTH, IMPROVE MOVEMENT MECHANICS AND GAIN CONFIDENCE IN THEIR ABILITIES TO BE PHYSICALLY ACTIVE. THESE INITIATIVES ARE ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT FOR THE GROWING NUMBER OF OVERWEIGHT AND OBESE YOUTH IN ORDER TO PREVENT A LIFETIME OF POTENTIAL MEDICAL AND SOCIAL PROBLEMS.
BENEFITS OF YOUTH FITNESS
The value in playing is one of the best ways to learn. By integrating both health and skill related fitness activities into well designed program, school aged youth will gain the skills and abilities they need for a lifetime of health-enhancing physical activity. By reinforcing the importance of developing sound exercise habits early in life, youth will gain the competence and confidence they need to regularly engage in physical activity as an ongoing lifestyle choice.
A Typical Session
Today, it's more important than ever to be outside in fresh air as much as possible. Outside exercise and activity provides a safe and healthy atmosphere for everyone. The weather offers us opportunity to move and develop skills in different and unique ways.
We will have fun through balance challenges, calisthenics and exercises. All activities will provide improvement to age appropriate motor skills. All of our workouts will be accomplished through creative active play and movement. We will occasionally do neighborhood walks or hikes with parental approval. We will use everyday items and games to challenge mind & body coordination and skills. We will explore the new “pound” craze and introduce simple rhythmic exercises.
While health and safety always come first, we will make every effort to exercise and work out in all kinds of weather. We will proceed with coaching sessions notwithstanding less-than-ideal weather circumstances so long as weather conditions do not pose an imminent risk of danger (such as outdoor temperatures that are dangerously hot/cold, pouring rain, lightning, etc.).
Physical activity should become a habitual part of children's lives that hopefully persist into adulthood.
